Hello there! I’m Starrie, and I am a Veterinary Assistant!
What Does My Job Look Like?
My job as a veterinary assistant is to help the veterinary technicians and veterinarians with some of their smaller tasks. I clean up cages, exam rooms, answer the phone and speak with clients. I also help prepare and clean up before/after surgical procedures!
What Are My Day to Day Tasks?
Some of my day to day tasks may include simple things, such as cleaning cages, cleaning exam rooms after each patient exits the room, doing laundry, taking messages and answering the phone. Some of my bigger tasks include setting up for surgeries and appointments, filling and refilling medications, preparing surgical tools and packing them, as well as taking a patient’s history!
What Is My Favorite Part of My Job?
My favorite part of my job is definitely seeing and helping care for all of the adorable animals that come into our clinic! I also enjoy cleaning and packing surgical tools!
How Did I Get This Job?
I am currently in school to become certified at my job! I applied to volunteer at a clinic as an internship!
How Can You Get This Job?
Even if you don’t go to a vocational school like me, you can still get this job! Many smaller general practice veterinary clinics will be very willing to train you on how to be a veterinary assistant! It is not a super hard job and may be a bit scary when you first start, but once you know what you’re doing it’s easy! If you have a strong love for animals and are very compassionate and caring, this job is perfect!
